ATLAS 9000 Corneal Topography System

The Humphrey ATLAS Corneal Topography System combines comprehensive software programs with the most advanced imaging and analysis technology. Also known as videokeratography, corneal topography is a process for mapping the surface curvature of the cornea, similar to making a contour map of land. The cornea is a clear membrane that covers the front of the eye and is responsible for about 70 percent of the eye’s focusing power. To a large extent, the shape of the cornea determines the visual ability of an otherwise healthy eye. A perfect eye has an evenly rounded cornea, but if the cornea is too flat, too steep, or unevenly curved, less than perfect vision results.

The purpose of corneal topography is to produce a detailed description of the shape and power of the cornea. Using computerized imaging technology, the 3-dimensional map produced by the corneal topographer aids an ophthalmologist in the diagnosis, monitoring, and treatment of various diseases.

Corneal topography is used in the diagnosis and management of various corneal curvature abnormalities and diseases such as:

  • Keratoconus, a degenerative condition that causes a thinning of the cornea
  • Corneal transplants
  • Corneal scars or opacities
  • Corneal deformities
  • Fitting contact lenses
  • Irregular astigmatism following corneal transplantation
  • Planning refractive surgery
  • Postoperative cataract extraction with acquired astigmatism

Alcon CENTURION Vision Cataract Removal System

Our hospital based surgery center uses the most advanced system for cataract removal, the Alcon CENTURION Vision System. Ultrasound phacoemulsification has long been the industry standard, but the CENTURION is taking cataract surgery to a new level.

In particular, this system provides the following benefits over other phacoemulsification systems:

  • Cataract surgery is done in a shorter amount of time, which decreases recovery time
  • Reduced risk of complications
  • Better control and more flexibility

The Alcon CENTURION is by far the most efficient system ever developed for cataract removal, and allows state of the art cataract surgery for our patients.

The Star S4 IR System

VISX Technology

The STAR platform’s heritage of dependability and performance is well known. The STAR S4 has taken that reputation to an even higher level. Our latest excimer laser system represents the most advanced laser technology platform available today. This laser requires a shorter procedure time and contains sophisticated eye tracking capabilities. The ActiveTrak™ 3-D Active Eye Tracking can capture all three dimensions of intra-operative eye movements without dilation of the pupils.

In tandem, we utilize the state-of-the-art iDesign Wavefront Technology to provide the best results for our patients with all ranges of nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism.

Our Laser Suite

Exacting air quality standards in our dedicated laser suite meets the same strict specifications found in operating rooms at major medical centers across the country. A sophisticated HVAC system maintains precise temperature and humidity control, and continually filters fine particles from the air. Air quality at this high level provides the necessary sterile environment for complete safety and infection control during laser vision correction.

iDesign System

iDesign Refractive Studio

The iDesign Refractive Studios designs and delivers individualized corrections with greater flexibility and precision than ever before during laser vision correction.

For many patients there are numerous reasons for poor vision. In a single eye, there may be several different types of visual imperfections and these imperfections are called aberrations. Aberrations are classified as lower-order aberrations and higher-order aberrations. In the past, doctors were only able to correct the lower order aberrations, such as nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism. Yet, these are not the only causes of blurry vision. Higher order aberrations impact your vision as well, and cannot be corrected with glasses or contacts or even traditional LASIK surgery.

Today, the new WaveFront Mapping technology with the iDesign system examines the entire optical system, allowing for higher order aberrations to be detected, measured and mapped. The ability to diagnose the higher order aberrations now leads to the ability to correct them resulting in customized WaveFront-driven LASIK and ASA.

Together, the iDesign WaveFront System and STAR S4 IR Excimer Laser System delivers unprecedented levels of measurement accuracy and outstanding treatment precision essential to the laser vision correction procedure.

The iDesign WaveFront System leads the industry for outstanding wavefront acquisition and diagnostic capabilities. Fast and powerful, the iDesign WaveFront System delivers unprecedented measurement accuracy, enhancing the precision of advanced laser vision correction.

CIRRUS Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT)

The CIRRUS OCT is a diagnostic imaging device that provides direct cross sectional images of the retina for objective measurement and subjective clinical evaluation in the detection of glaucoma and retinal diseases. The CIRRUS OCT images and analyzes macular thickness, the retinal nerve fiber layer and the optic disc using the latest technology for high resolution scans.

Zeiss IOL Master System

Zeiss IOL Master System

We are pleased to offer the new IOL master technology for extremely accurate measurement of the axial length used for intraocular lens power calculations (the custom power of the implant for an individual’s eye).

During cataract surgery and other lens replacement procedures, vision is improved by replacing the eye’s natural lens with an intraocular lens (IOL). IOLs come in different powers and sizes to compensate for each patient’s individual needs. For best vision after cataract surgery, precise measurements must be taken to determine which IOL to implant.

The IOL master is a high precision instrument revolutionizing all previous techniques and setting a new standard for IOL calculations. We have invested in this new technology because we feel it will improve our ability to calculate implant powers with even greater accuracy! This helps our cataract surgical patients have better distant vision without glasses by improving our accuracy in choosing the best implant for the patient’s eye.

ZEISS CALLISTO Computer-Assisted Cataract Surgery

Associated Ophthalmologists is pleased to be the only practice in Iowa equipped with the computer-assisted cataract surgery system known as ZEISS CALLISTO eye. The system provides markerless alignment during surgery to achieve more efficient and precise toric IOL alignment with reduced astigmatism. It helps us achieve the most precise outcomes for your surgery, which are vastly improved over manual marking systems.

CLARUS Ultra-Widefield Retinal Camera

Clarus is the next-generation retinal imaging system from ZEISS that provides true color and high-resolution across an entire ultra-widefield image. It allows us to detect diseases often located in the far periphery of the retina. It is incredibly useful for managing glaucoma and retinal disease.
