Dr. Michael Versackas was born in Ottumwa.  Although he spent most of his time living in Des Moines, he did attend high school at Columbus High School in Waterloo.  He received a BA degree with highest distinction in Economics and General Science from the University of Iowa in 1969. He was also awarded Phi Beta Kappa in 1969.  Dr. Versackas graduated from the University of Iowa College of Medicine in 1973.

Following his medical degree, he did a rotating internship at Los Angeles County Harbor General Hospital in Torrence, California.  He then did his Ophthalmology Residency at Barnes Hospital at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri.  Dr. Versackas is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology.  He is also a fellow of the American College of Surgeons.  He has practiced Ophthalmology in Des Moines since 1977, entirely at Associated Ophthalmologists, PC.

Dr. Versackas and his wife, Diane, live in West Des Moines.  They have three grown children and two lovely grandchildren.
