Jennifer L. DenHartog OD
Dr.
Jennifer DenHartog received her Doctor of Optometry
degree from Indiana University School of Optometry
in Bloomington, Indiana. She earned her Bachelor of
Arts degree, with a major in Psychology from the
University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa. She has been
practicing at Associated Ophthalmologists, PC, since
2001.
Dr.
DenHartog is an active member of the Iowa Optometric
Association, and the American Optometric
Association. Past awards include the Wesley Jessen
Contact Lens Achievement Award , given upon
graduation, demonstrating outstanding skills and
knowledge in the field of contact lens fitting of
both rigid and soft contact lenses.
She
spent one of her externships with the Wesley Jessen
contact lens clinic in Des Plaines, Illinois (now
known as Ciba), where she increased her skills and
knowledge of advanced contact lens fitting. Other
externships included further skills training in
treatment and management of ocular disease, glaucoma
management, low vision, and pediatrics.
Her
current practice emphasis includes primary eye care
and the diagnosis and management of ocular disease.
She also fits many contact lenses including
multifocals, keratoconus, soft, and rigid lenses.
She was recently quoted in the Des Moines Register
featuring the benefits Baby Boomers enjoy with new
contact lens technologies.
Dr.
DenHartog is a native of Newton, Iowa, and currently
resides in Urbandale where she is an active member
of the Urbandale Jaycees and her local church. Her
hobbies include gardening, walking, traveling and
photography.
Her most
recent travels have taken her on a mission to
Zambia, Africa, and a medical mission to the
Dominican Republic. “Serving these impoverished
people who have no affordable access to healthcare
has been a true privilege. I am thankful each day
for a great job that allows me to serve others and
the opportunities I have to care for friends and
family. . My hope for the future is to make a
greater difference in the lives of many and to give
both the gift of sight and hope to others.”
